Dear Readers,
Volume 2, No. 1, January 2006

My time as a Fulbright Scholar in Lublin, Poland is coming to an end as the fall/winter semester comes to a close. Without a doubt this has been one of the most rewarding experiences within my academic career. I am deeply touched by all the support received from the administration, and my fellow colleagues in the Department of American Studies at the University of Marie Curie Skldowskiej (UMCS). It has also been a delight for me to have shared experiences with students who are eager to expand their knowledge and understanding of American identity.

Having experienced an entire semester teaching in another country I have also broadened my understanding of the necessity to gain higher learning on a global scale. With education as our top priority I believe the right course is set for acquiring a level of tolerance and sensitivity that will bring us closer to a world of peace.

The Fulbright Program is duly noted as a flagship program that promotes mutual understanding in a world of cultural and ethnic differences. I am deeply honored to have participated in this most prestigious program.

Performance at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music

I had the distinguished pleasure of presenting a performance and lecture at the prestigious Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw on January 13, 2006. The presentation was given by the joint efforts of the U.S. Embassy in Poland and the Music Academy in presenting the Embassy's ongoing "America Presents" (click). Performing at the Academy was quite an exciting experience as Chopin was one of my first admired pianists of the classical tradition during my early education in music. Strolling in an institution founded in 1810, whcih also marks the year of Chopin's birth, where one of world's most gifted pianists studied (1826-1829) was quite an honor to say the least. TV Broadcast: Trybunal Concert

On January 20, 2006 one of Poland's network television broadcasting stations televised my concert at the Trybunal (Old Town, Lublin), which was given on December 16, 2006.

Here I am pictured with distinguished faculty of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music: Dr. Jagna Dankowska (professor of composition, conducting, and music theory), myself, Dr. Andrzej Dutkiewicz (professor, head, contemporary music studies), and Dr. Maciej Paderewski (professor, piano, chamber music).
